Thank God for mercy

Words to live by… Genesis 19:30

Remember when the angel told Lot to run to the mountains for safety? (Genesis 19:17-23) Lot was so afraid of the possibility that he might not get there safely that he bargained with the angel to let him stay in Zoar, a little city nearby. Basically, Lot really had a difficult time just doing what he was told. In the midst of all the pandemonium and destruction, he didn’t hesitate to take the time to ask the angel to make an exception for him. Isn’t it amazing how selfish we can be even to the point of asking God to give us special treatment in delivering us from our own messes. The sin of selfishness knows no bounds.
In verse 30, we find out that Lot didn’t even stay in Zoar after God made an exception for him. This is so typical of individuals who never feel that they need to come under authority. Do you struggle with obeying those God has placed in authority over you? Even when God is exceptionally merciful, many will not commit their way to God. Many of us continually ask God to make exceptions for us; yet, even on our own terms, we fail. Thank God for mercy! Remember - God knows best. When will we trust God enough to simply take him at his word and know that he has our best interest at heart? Pray with me; God, give me the faith to accept your word as absolute truth, and give me the grace to obey it!
