Matters of the heart

Words To live by… Genesis 19: 30-38

When you read this text, you begin to understand how twisted Lot and his daughters had become in their thinking. The fact is, no matter how far removed you are from sinful influence, life is still about choices. This family left the wicked cities of Sodom and Gomorrah, yet the lifestyle they had lived continued to dominate their decisions, and behavior. Isolation verses insulation; which one really works? I'm sure it is evident to most of us that the sure way to have victory over sin is to insulate ourselves through prayer, study, and faith in God’s grace to empower us to make good decisions. Simply not being in certain places, or staying away from those who live a sinful existence will not keep us from participating in evil acts. Our hearts must be changed. This comes from a current, and vibrant relationship with God. We can’t spend the rest of lives running and hiding from sin. We must develop a deep relationship with God where pleasing him becomes the center of our focus. Everyday ask God, “What is it you desire of me today?” To live in constant fellowship with him will become a delight as we place ourselves consistently at His feet. The risk is that our disappointment in others, and our own failures will distract us from spending the necessary time needed to cultivate a meaningful and intimate relationship with God.
