Actions speak louder than words...

Words to live by... Genesis 19:12-14

Lot was in a city about which the Living Bible states, “the stench of the place had reached to heaven.” What wickedness, what debauchery! Isn’t it amazing how sin gets its tentacles in us and then drags us places we never dreamed we’d go. Sin is so subtle. We can’t control or tame it. We must run from it. Sin is so repulsive to God. How we need a vision of the awfulness of sin and the reality of its destructiveness. It was God’s grace and Abraham’s faith that had allowed Lot and his family the opportunity to escape the utter destruction of this place. Our prayers for those we love are not in vain. God is listening and not willing that any should perish. Thank God, Abraham was not as caught up in himself as Lot was. Thank God for those who pray for us even when we’ve taken advantage of them. Lot had asked for the best land, and Abraham was kind enough to concede. Even after Lot had selfishly taken Abraham’s best and purposely pursued a life of sin, Abraham kept loving and praying for him. Be thankful for those who love you at all times.

When we purposely dabble in sin ourselves, those we give spiritual guidance to will be hard pressed to take us seriously. Verse 14 of this chapter gives us insight into how our promiscuity is perceived by our families and acquaintances. It’s amazing how much more forgiving people are if we have an attitude of humility, and strive to show kindness and consideration at all times. We’re going to fail by times, and knowing that, we would do well to show meekness and forgiveness constantly. Lot’s advice was not well received by his son-in-laws. We need to understand why. Lifestyle equals influence. Think about it.
