Genesis 18:23-33

God had made the decision to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah. Abraham had been privileged to speak into this decision. Abraham was concerned that not one righteous person should perish in this destruction. Notice Abraham’s attitude as he entreated God for mercy concerning the conditions in sparing these cities. He said, “God, you know I’m but dust and ashes,” and “Oh let not the Lord be angry and I will speak yet but this once.” Abraham was careful to respect God’s sovereignty while making this plea for his family.

Our approach to God is so important. How we see God, through our mind’s eye, is a major factor in how God responds to us. God is more interested in our personal relationship with him than meeting temporary needs and wants. The very reason God was holding this conversation with Abraham was because of the covenant they had. God wants to hook us up in Kingdom business. He wants us to be informed and active in all he’s doing here on earth.

The story goes on to show God’s incredible mercy toward the few believers living in these cities. Jesus wants believers in every school, business and institution, who truly love souls and are willing to pray for their salvation, to plead their case before the Father. Their salvation is paid for in Christ’s own blood, but they have to be convinced of it through the word of ‘our’ testimony.

We must be alive with anticipation and enthusiasm concerning eternal things. Talk to God concerning your relatives and friends who don’t serve him. Ask him to send someone across their pathway who will help rescue them from imminent destruction. God is not willing that any should perish. We must take this stance as his ambassadors. Everyone should have the opportunity to experience Christ’s love. We can make sure they do.
